Harrisburg, PA – More than a dozen people are accused of taking part in a major organized crime ring involving vehicles and license plates throughout Pennsylvania.
By illegally renting the license plates in New York City and other locations, this crime ring profited significantly and allowed those who used the fraudulent plates to avoid paying more than $1 million in parking fines and EZ Pass tolls across several states.
Charges have been filed against multiple people and businesses for being involved in the ring. The PA Attorney General says the crime ring was led by 50-year-old Rafael Lev of Brooklyn, NY.
The group allegedly sold and rented fraudulently obtained license plates, fake insurance cards, “clean” titles to vehicles, and drivers’ licenses. They also rolled the odometer readings back on multiple cars, allowing them to be sold for more than what they were worth.
