The JCPenney in Clearfield will be one of 138 JCPenney stores to close by the end of this year.
JCPenney revealed the list of stores targeted for closure. Locally, the Clearfield Mall location is among those that will close, but stores in DuBois and Indiana will continue to remain open.
It's just the latest sign of the struggles plaguing brick-and-mortar retailers as they try to compete with e-commerce masters like Amazon.
Earlier this month, Moody's Investors Service put out a report listing 19 retailers -- including Sears, Kmart, Payless, J. Crew and Claire's -- that it considers "distressed."
Staples said on March 9 that it's closing 70 more of its stores, and The Limited said in January that it's closing all of its retail locations.
The majority of the Penney's closures are in the eastern part of the state. Approximately 5,000 positions nationwide will be impacted by the store closures.
